First Class - Universal History 101

The Doctor is sitting on the big desk at the front of the class, watching the students file in. After they have taken their seats (Or the majority of them at least) he clears his throat and leans forward.
"'Ello there, class. Welcome to Universal History 101. Hope you all brought your brains along. You're going to need them." His voice is cheery and he's got a grin like he really enjoys doing this, which may or may not be the case. Either way, he hops to his feet, walking around the desk.
"I'm Dr. John Smith, Professor of Universal History and Time and Relative Space. Right then, speaking of introductions, let's have a little role call, shall we?"
---
The following is an OOC summary of the day's class
Class summary:
The Doctor does a quick role call, asking students to give a brief introduction of themselves as per usual 'first class' standards. Mostly because he's fairly certain the other staff is still watching his class closely.
Discussion of the day covers the vast expanse of the universe and how events at one point in the universe can affect the events at another. Topics include a brief touching on the difference of lifestyle, morals, ethics and society rules between planets of various galaxies. Most notably the difference between speech-reliant planets like earth, non-verbal planets like Delphon and warring planets like Sontar. He gets a bit long winded halfway through this discussion and goes off into a rambling of the eyebrow language of Delphon and, later, the Sontaran war clones.
As the end of class comes around he makes an announcement regarding the following week's class. The first field trip. The field trip will be to China Town [Desai native]. He comments on the fact that nearly every human planet has a China-town and that the point of this field trip is to observe the way traditions hold up despite distance or time from their place of origin. Culture and tradition have a marvelous way of holding on to existence.
I encourage questions, of either the Doctor or me, on the day's class, and I'll be happy to log with anyone who wants to. Post here if you want, or read it over and use it for yourself later. That's up to you. You can also refer to How Class Works for a more detailed explanation.
Please feel free to comment on that post at any time with how you think classes are going or how you think I can improve them. Anonymous commenting is enabled, comments are screened and ip logging is off.
Action sized, log form. Too lazy to write in brackets.
Date: 2010-12-01 09:26 pm (UTC)As it was, the liveliest moment was during student introductions when a certain detective-wannabe near the front row, for some inexplicable reason, sat down on a chair that flew out from under him. It raised a temporary discussion of poltergeists, but that was quickly ended and the boring class continued.

Date: 2010-12-02 01:44 am (UTC)From his seat next to Kaito, where he hoped at least the other trickster could help keep him from falling asleep, he tapped the magician's foot with his shoe, a slight grin as he tilted his head toward the 'poor student' whose chair had decided to play tricks. He was still wondering how Kaito did it. But he was fairly sure the other boy had. Who else would? Kaoru didn't believe in poltergeists. Those were scary tales to frighten others with.

Date: 2010-12-02 03:25 am (UTC)Instead, as class continued, Kaito appeared to pay minimal attention as he doodled random caricatures in his notebook and passed a message along to Kaoru at one point.
Do you have anything after this?

Date: 2010-12-02 04:39 am (UTC)This is my only Wednesday class. Why? You have something planned?
no subject
Date: 2010-12-02 05:12 am (UTC)But the main thing was, this course had no exam.
Not really. I was thinking of going somewhere to hang out.

Date: 2010-12-02 07:12 am (UTC)Besides, fishing line (That HAD to be it) was easy to miss.
He grumbled through the talk of poltergeists with a very pointed "I know it was you" look shot at a certain magician a few rows back.
Of course when he recovered his chair it was gone, Kuroba'd probably already reeled the rig back in.

Date: 2010-12-02 05:14 pm (UTC)While Hakuba retrieved his poltergeist played chair, Kaito inconspicuously stuffed the invisible line into one of his secret pockets.
As to that heated "I'll catch you yet" look? It was ignored, of course. An innocent magician like him wouldn't notice dirty looks or respond to them.

Date: 2010-12-01 09:59 pm (UTC)[As the talk of the planets Delphon and Sontar begins, Yuuto has already become rather irritated that this class seems more like the mad babbling of an insane asylum reject, but he sits through it all for a while until something finally itches his brain and he raises his hand. He decides to just butt into the conversation, as the professor seems a bit too into rambling to probably even notice his hand.]
Exactly what galaxy are these planets in?
[action]
Date: 2010-12-02 02:08 am (UTC)Earth and Sontar are both located in Mutter's Spiral. Better known as The Milky Way. Delphon is located in the satelite galaxy now called Galaxy Seven.
[Leaning back against his desk, he watched Yuuto as he answered the question. Pausing to see if the student had any further questions.]

Date: 2010-12-02 10:11 am (UTC)And what's the distance between Earth and Sontar?
[action]
Date: 2010-12-06 05:48 am (UTC)It's located in the Scutum-Centaurus Arm of the galaxy. Roughly, oh... 70,000 light years away from Earth's sun.

Date: 2010-12-01 10:09 pm (UTC)Of course he knew that the professor (John Smith? What sort of name was that?) discouraged changing events in the past, but Johannes was more than willing to break laws for his purposes. He wasn't an idiot, though. He had to understand what he was breaking before he'd tamper with it.
He introduced himself as just "Cabal", a professional specializing in revivification and also a carnival owner. Yes, that big one in the city.
no subject
Date: 2010-12-02 02:28 am (UTC)He more than discouraged changes in time, especially for personal gain. Established timeline events must not be altered. He spent a large portion of his lifetimes stopping people from doing that very same thing.
Oblivious to Cabal's reasoning, The Doctor acknowledged his profession with interest. before carrying on with the class. Maybe he would go to that carnival later.

Date: 2010-12-01 10:34 pm (UTC)[He kept himself near the back and tried very hard to scribble notes, but only seemed to be scribbling musical notes instead. Lifestyles, morals, ethics, societies, politics - these were all things Wataru was pretty much uninterested in. The talk of those other planets also just made his little head spin. He opted to just scribble the musical notes, which turned out to be the notes for a Bach sonata, and waited for class to end.]
[Before the end, however, Wataru had only one very important question to ask. He raised a hand.]
Um... will there be talk of the music of other planets?
[He didn't care about China Town or Delphon or even The Library; all he cared about was the music.]
[action] wait utill he learns that "Every book ever written" includes music books
Date: 2010-12-02 02:45 am (UTC)Oh, yes. Very good point. Brilliant. Yes, music is a part of many cultures, all across the Universe. We will be taking a look at that later, as well.
[action] he'll explode from happiness.
Date: 2010-12-02 10:16 am (UTC)[He looked rather uncomfortable for a moment, but that was merely to hide both his glee and disappointment. He was glad it would be talked of, but having to wait was a bit of sad news.]
Thank you.
[And for the rest of the class he will probably not say a word again.]

Date: 2010-12-03 07:09 am (UTC)or really cuteto even get in the doors). He chose a seat off to one side,, leaned back and arms crossed over his chest, so as not to interfere with classes that might help a few of these good-for-nothings learn something useful. But as soon as the Doctor started speaking, Mr D knew already that it was quite beyond the level of most who were in the room. He made special mental note of those who were able to actually follow along. The topic of the class was (for the most part) rather interesting from the perspective of someone who's seen it all first-hand. Being a god, he wasn't tied to one planet or even one dimension exclusively. However, religious following of their pantheon had died off in most, so the Olympians abandoned the realms.
After a point, Mr D raised his hand as he'd seen students do. "Tell me, Doctor. Do you personally think the differences in lifestyle, morals, ethics, et cetera are more significant from one planet to the next? Or are the differences more significant on beings in the same situation, such as Earth or Desai, who have the same environment but choose to live differently?" It was a perspective-gaining question, not one with a real answer. And a doozy.
